“I will raze everything at the surface of the entire earth until it is flat. I will fill the valleys with mountains, then I will pour concrete over the surface of all the continents.” - from letter yves klein wrote in 1960 the year he invented earth works

terrain vague - ben vautier 1961
hope i get to see the geffen moca exhibit "ends of the earth: land art to 1974"
it's an exhibit that examines the many periphery works, people and ideas that are related to land art and earth works and asks questions about the beginnings of a movement that has been defined in a historical sense by a show at the dwan gallery and a handful of key figures like smithson and andre.
but history never happens the way we pretend it does when we're looking back.
me? well i think the first earth work happened when someone looked in to nature and thought it was beautiful and then moved some things and thought it was still beautiful.
please enjoy the day.
